About The Intimacy of Privacy
Billie Melissa Rogan’s first solo documentary effort, The Intimacy of Privacy, is a meditation on love, memory, and the cities that hide our secrets.
Set across three locations, The Intimacy of Privacy is a vulnerable tale told though a series of conversations that take place across five years between two childhood best friends growing up and falling apart.
About the Filmmaker
Billie Melissa Rogan is a filmmaker and journalist from London, UK. In 2021 she moved to New York City to pursue her MA in Media Studies at The New School where she was also an Impact Entrepreneurship Fellow. It was there that she directed her first short documentary, Fighting to Live, While Waiting to Die, which tells the story of Billie Allen, a man with an innocence case on federal death row. She is now looking to make her second non-fiction film, The Intimacy of Privacy, a personal story which documents her time in New York City through a unique lens.
Style
Inspired by Chantal Akerman’s News From Home and Mike Mills’ 20th Century Women, The Intimacy of Privacy uses mixed media to build a specific world for the film’s two voices to live within.
Experimental in style, The Intimacy of Privacy focuses on our relationship to our memories through and place, and the moments that happen behind closed doors.
Blurring the lines between reality and fiction, The Intimacy of Privacy gives audiences a space to grieve the people in their lives they’ve loved and lost, and invites them to feel less alone within it all.
