“The public health, public safety and economic crisis of homelessness has evolved into a full-blown humanitarian emergency. 40,000 people sleep on the streets of LA every night – more than in any other city in the nation.” -Congresswoman and Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Karen Bass

While this is a very deep and complicated issue and many opinions for solutions exist, we can all agree that the situation needs immediate attention. From the child sleeping on the street to the woman accosted on her way to her car, from the litter and people laying in filth to the fires endangering homes, from the desire to help to the plummeting property values and the drain on government resources, the situation gets more serious by the day.

As parents, property owners and producers of content, we want to explore both sides of the issue…the unhoused themselves and those experiencing the impact of homelessness on their safety and security. We also understand the importance of community. Especially, in Los Angeles, where even the most successful of us can find ourselves without one they can call their own. Having had firsthand experience in various sectors of social services and housing, concerned citizens, we see the impact this lack of community has had and wanted to do something about it.

We decided to create a project who’s objective is to open the conversation to finding solutions to homelessness together. We believe a big part of the solution is understanding people’s stories. Once awareness is spread that our communities are made up of a collection of individuals and each has different issues, perhaps we may be able to come together to create cohesive, sustainable solutions that benefit everyone.

“The Invisible Ones” is a short film that follows one man as he attempts to restore his family. Circumstances have left him left him living in an RV in the middle of a homeless encampment in downtown LA.

As we follow him on his quest, we learn the stories of many of the less fortunate and realize that we, too, can easily find ourselves in such a dire situation. We also explore The mini different perspectives of those expected by homelessness, from property and business owners, to residents that fear for their safety.

The objective is to open the conversation finding solutions to homelessness together. We believe a big part of the solution is understanding people’s stories.

Once we become aware of the different issues, perspectives and experiences, perhaps we may be able to come together to create cohesive, sustainable solutions that benefit everyone. “Invisible Ones“ is a standalone short film that will be submitted to film festivals, as well as serve as the pilot episode of the TV series of the same name.

We wanted to ensure that this project has an immediate, direct and long-lasting impact as well as a reward for our supporters. To that end, we decided to secure a fiscal sponsorship so that we can give funds directly to a solution provider and allow our donors to write their contributions off on their taxes.

We searched high and low for the perfect organization with which to partner and were struck by the vision, mission and programs of the Peggy Beatrice Foundation who’s mantra is “Restoring Communities One Family At a Time.“ It’s founder, Pierre Johnson, has dedicated countless hours to serving the underserved in the memory and namesake of his grandmothers, who made him the person he is today.

His humble nature and philosophy of rebuilding the individual from the inside out, reuniting them to their family and then the community is quite impressive and we realized we couldn’t be any more aligned.

Please help us achieve this mission of creating content that we believe will aid in helping solve the homelessness issue as well as supporting the grassroots, in the field efforts of the Peggy Beatrice Foundation.

Through this campaign, not only will we raise funds but we will also raise awareness and support for the many programs in place to help serve the underserved. Each donation is fully tax-deductible as The Peggy Beatrice foundation is a registered and recognized 501 C3 nonprofit organization. Proceeds will go to both direct support of the foundation as well as production of the film. Thank you in advance for your support of this novel attempt to create more impact and value through entertainment.
