The James Rochelle Family Fund
Donation protected
James Rochelle passed away unexpectedly while at work on Friday February 1st, 2019. He was 48. He leaves behind his family: April Cochran, Mikayla Edwards, and Frank Edwards; extended family, and countless friends.
There is a Memorial and Retrospective for James on Saturday March 9th at 2pm, at the San Diego Comic Art Gallery in Point Loma, CA.
James had the amazing ability to communicate and connect and with anyone who came into his life. This was true for his entire life: from high school in Redondo Beach, to college at the Art Institute in Seattle, to his time living in Lancaster, CA, and the last 25 years in San Diego. He would get you with his sharp sense of humor and his sly smile, and then you were locked in by his honesty and his ability to open up and listen to your story. Many people spent hours of their life talking to James about their lives, politics, religion, art, music, movies; wherever the conversation would lead.
James spent most of his professional career working in San Diego in the comic book and video game industries. He was a talented artist, and worked in both fields as a colorist. The last couple of years were challenging, professionally, as James had to take jobs with Uber and a security company to survive financially. Not wanting to waste this time creatively, he started working again on his comic book, 30 Pieces of Silver - which he started in High School.
Unfortunately James' unexpected passing has left April with some of his debt. With this Memorial, we're trying to raise funds to help support April pay down that debt, and build a small cushion for the immediate future. We've set a goal of $75,000. All funds will go directly to April (note: Go Fund Me takes a little off the top for processing). If you knew James (maybe you worked with him, maybe you spent a long night talking to him about life and the universe over scotch and cigars, maybe you respectfully argued politics with him on Facebook), please consider donating to the fund. Any amount is appreciated.
