In December, Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma. Glioblastoma is a malignant and aggressive brain tumor. Dad's tumor is in a particularly stubborn location. The tumor is growing near important regions of his brain that control his vision, movement, and coordination. Dad is undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. His prognosis is unclear but grim. One thing we do know, however, is dad is a fighter - an ox - who will grin and bear it through the multitude of challenges this illness throws at him.
Dad/Grandpa/Joe/Joey/Uncle Joe is strong. He is almost as strong as his wife, Missy, who is committed to fighting the hell out of this with unwavering dedication. Brogan, their 9 year old son, has acted well beyond his years throughout this difficult time.
Dad is extremely driven and hard working. He is well-known and respected throughout the lumber industry. He's also not afraid to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty, or climb on your roof, or crawl in places of your home that no one else is willing to go. He's always willing to lend a hand and embraces his unyielding desire to help others.
We can't even fathom how difficult all of this has been on Dad, Missy, and Brogan. These hardships will only continue for the foreseeable future. Dad and Missy have taken an indefinite break from their jobs to shift all of their focus towards fighting this cancer. Medical costs and monthly bills are unavoidable. This situation presents all of us with an opportunity to help. Not only can we relieve some of the financial pressures, we can also fill Dad's window of time with experiences and goods that bring him joy.
Dad has had a profound impact on so many people. Now is our chance to show our appreciation and support for who he is and what he stands for. Every little bit helps.
Thank you to those of you who have contributed to the outpouring support to Dad already. Let's keep the momentum going!
