The Journey to New Lungs

Hello, my name is Madison Dupere and I am asking for help from anyone who is willing.

My aunt has been diagnosed with terminal COPD and has been struggling to perform even day to day activities for over a year now. As a once very active, happy, outgoing woman, she is now unable to even go up the stairs in her own home. Going to the washroom is even a task for her which in the end normally requires her to administer oxygen afterwards.

On top of this, she has had to go on leave from her beloved bus driver job… something that gives her and the ones who ride with her joy. The last 6 months have gotten very bad, and it is now at the point that my aunt Heathers’ lung capacity is as low as 16%. That being said, she has an amazing opportunity to travel to Toronto in order to be added to the lung transplant list and in conclusion, hopefully be able to live out her life fully, once again.

Here is a message from my aunt Heather:

My name is Heather Gallant... I am living with a terminal lung disease that requires me to travel to Toronto for tests and then move there to wait for lung transplant surgery.

Medicare will pay for my surgery and hospital stay. There are many other costs I must pay for to be able to do this. I will need to drive there, ((the plane has too many germs I can get exposed to), many times over the next few years with a support person whom will be my husband and this is required.

I may need to stay in a hotel for a week for my initial assessment tests at over $400/night. (and then return every 3 months for a year after my transplant) I must also rent accommodations for approximately $3500/month for my stay in Toronto as I wait for a lung transplant. This could be as long as up to 18 months to 2 years.

I am asking for any donation amount you feel you can afford to give. Any and all donations will be used for this journey and any health related expenses.
