The Journey with Jen

Those who have had the privilege to know Jennifer VanDooren Cromwell, know what a true light and beauty she is, inside and out. She has a heart of gold and is an amazing friend, daughter, wife and mother. Anyone who meets Jennifer instantly feels the warmth of her heart and her sincerity. Jen would go out of her way for a stranger. She is loved by many in her community and leaves an impact everywhere she goes. She is the best mother to her beautiful daughter, Indy and an inspirational wife to her husband, Phil.

In June 2023, Jennifer began to have some health issues and went from doctor to doctor trying to determine what the underlying problem was and how they could best support her. After many appointments and MRIs/CT scans at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, the doctors found signs of leukemia and provided her with options, ultimately leading Jennifer to feel called to MD Anderson in Houston. Since being at MD, the oncologist has diagnosed Jennifer with ALL (Acute Lymphatic Leukemia with Philadelphia chromosome). Jen and family will be at MD Anderson in Houston for a few months.

It will be a long road to recovery and many months of medication and hospital visits, but Jennifer is hopeful through the power of Jesus and His hands over these knowledgeable doctors, that she is getting the best care and will win this battle triumphantly.

The VanDooren/Cromwell family has seen their fair share of battles, but God, without fail, has always provided, even in the most torrential downpours of life. When Jennifer was 13, she lost her brother, who was just 15, to cancer. In March 2021, Jenn and Phil’s daughter Indy was born with an extra chromosome 21. Otherwise known as Down Syndrome, this circumstance has been a blessing unlike any other in their lives, but also comes with its own set of struggles. Beautiful Indy has undergone open heart surgery at just 7 months old and her fight will not end there. She will have to endure future heart surgeries as she gets older, but this child of God is a true heart warrior and has big plans in store for her life!

Through all of these hurdles, Jennifer and her family have stayed strong in their faith, leaning on God and trusting His plan. God is good and He has her in His hands.
