The Jule House - Jasper Fire Tragedy - Please Help Rebuild

The recent fire and devastation in the town of Jasper is heartbreaking. The loss in that community is unimaginable. Many of us have been lucky enough to have experienced this beautiful place.

Among the loss, is one very special home. The photo above is Lodgepole Street where this home once stood.

The Jule House was a small and mighty space, where Julianne Shea, born with debilitating autism, shared a modest home as an adult with people dedicated to independent living. This is an incredible accomplishment based on years of hard work by Julianne and her community. Most homes on Lodgepole tragically burned to the ground, including Julianne's mother's small home right next door. A double tragedy for this family.

Grace Kohn, Julianne's mother, has spent a lifetime advocating for the development and growth of children with autism. She has authored a book called "Children of Autumn - Autism Here on Purpose". Further information is found on this website link. Children of Autumn . Her impact has been felt far and wide. Grace is a loving, giving, spirited and creative being who lives day to day in community, with modest financial resources. She is a dear friend to many. (Some say Grace, who loves to sing, has earned her spot in an angels' choir!)

The Jule House has to be rebuilt. It is a prototype for housing which is needed now and in the coming years, because of the rising incidence of Autism diagnoses. This wonderful home is a model for how typical and non-typical people can support each other and co-exist in community.

The insurance companies will not cover the full replacement costs. Our help is needed, and deeply appreciated.
