On Saturday, July 8, 2023, our lives were turned upside down in a matter of seconds.
Earlier in the morning Brandon woke with mild chest pains that would go away quickly. These chest pain came and went throughout the day, but were so quick that we monitored him. He said that they were feeling better after dinner and wanted to take the girls outside. While outside, Brandon asked me when I was going to cut the grass (sorry, I'm a lines person). After discussing the weather I hopped up and started cutting. Once I finished, Brandon came outside to weed eat. He had trouble getting the weed eater started which is when I started questioning if he was feeling okay. He started and had to take a break just seconds into it. When he arrived at the end of our driveway he drop the weed eater yelling, "I've got to go lay down!" I pick it up and finished what I could. When I got inside he was rolling on the couch to get comfortable. He called 911 to give details and then handed the phone to me. It took EMS 25 minutes to get to us. When they arrived they did an EKG and found nothing. Did a second one, and found nothing. They decided that he need to go to the hospital to get checked.
While at the hospital they found nothing. The doctor came in spoke to us and did some more watching but came across nothing. The doctor decided that he would start the discharge process. After not even ten minutes of the doctor walking out, he began to have chest pains. I walked up to the nurse and told her. They gave him medicine but also took blood. The first test came back as an error, so back to drawing more blood. After about an hour passed I asked for an update as it was going on 1:00 am. The doctor came in to tell us that his troponins were starting to elevate. This indicated that he had a heart attack.
They explained that Bradon would stay the night and have a stress test in the morning. So I packed up the girls and we headed home at 2:00 am. Later after getting home, Brandon calls with an update. They were just going to complete a heart cath instead of a stress test as his level continued to rise. Brandon returned to his room before I got to the hospital and he text me stating, "Where are you?" I had just parked. He went on the tell me that they needed to do bypass surgery. Y'all my heart sunk!
On Monday, July 10, 2023, Brandon had a quadruple bypass. The surgery took 5.5 hours, but I did not get to see him until 4:00 pm. Unfortunately, we had a few setbacks, and have been in CVCICU longer than expected due to his lungs not healing.
We have had an outpouring amount of people asking how they can help. After talking with Brandon we have decided that we will welcome meals (diet and allergies will come later), gift cards (groceries and gas), and or donations as he will be out of work for up to 8 weeks. These donations will be used to help cover our needs including medical bills.
If you find it in your heart to do any of these kind gestures we will be forever grateful, but if you are unable to do anything all we ask is that you pray for a quick recovery. I need my husband back and his girls need their daddy back.
