The Lachlan Kean Foundation was inspired by Lachlan Kean, a 37 year young man who lost his battle to bowel cancer.
Lachlan was experiencing symptoms for over a year however he just put it down to bad diet or a big night out. It was not until he started experiencing significant discomfort and pain that he went to the GP to get himself checked. He was then mis-diagnosed and turned away. Lachie's symptoms persisted and worsened and finally sought a second opinion. It was months later his mis-diagnosis that he found out the realities of his situation.
After 15 months of chemotherapy, surgeries and radiation, Lachie lost his battle to the disease leaving behind his family and 3 year old son. Before he passed away, he had plans and ambitions to create greater awareness and raise funds to help other young adults just like himself.
90% of bowel cancer can be treated if detected early however a large proportion of young adults tend to be diagnosed at Stage 3 or 4.
Bowel cancer is the deadliest disease amongst young adults 25-44, and the cases continue to grow in young adults year after year. Sadly there is still very little awareness amongst young Australians about this dreadful disease.
The Lachlan Kean foundation's mission is to raise awareness amongst young adults and fund research in early onset bowel cancer.
Get tested, because life is so good.
