On Monday Evening, Assistant Fire Chief Sean Laffan of the Oakland Fire Department, died in the line of duty.
Sean was 42 years old and leaves behind a wife and 3 children.
Sean was born and raised in San Jose, CA and grew up off of Quimby Road in East San Jose. He attended Saint John Vianney Catholic School then graduated from Archbishop Mitty High School, where he met his lifetime sweetheart, Sabrina, in 1995. Sean and Sabrina married in San Jose and raised 3 boys Caeden, Connor and Cooper. Caeden attended The Academy at South Bay and is now a probationary firefighter for the Oakland Fire Department.
In his early career, Sean was a volunteer firefighter for the Santa Clara Fire Department, where Sabrina’s father served as a career long firefighter. Sean’s father was a mail carrier in San Jose and served as the union president for the postal service in San Jose. Sean attended Mission College and worked for Santa Clara County AMR 307 (Saratoga Station). In 2000, Sean was hired by the Oakland Fire Department where he would serve proudly, moving through the ranks of Firefighter Paramedic, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief and ultimately becoming an Assistant Fire Chief.
