The Lake Michigan Voyage
Donation protected
It's been a goal of ours to sail a Great Lake for a while now... The dream is set to be realized in Summer, 2017.
Our voyage will be 65+ miles of open water from the Wisconsin east coast to the Michigan west coast. Our selected class of sailboats will be a Laser II and a Sunfish, which are both about the size of a car. It will be a true sailing experience with no motors and no longer decks, just us, the wind and the water.
We will journey across Lake Michigan in early September and, in doing so, will be raising money and awareness for fresh water preservation and research.
100% of proceeds will go to the Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research, an organization that conducts professional ecological research, as well as partners with 9 Midwest universities (University of Michigan, Michigan State University, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, Ohio State University, Cornell University, University of Windsor, Central Michigan University and Grand Valley State University) to give students access to research experience.
Donations will go on to help fund current research projects, including the monitoring and analyzing of:
- Harmful algal bloom
- Fresh water quality
- Low-oxygen levels in the Lakes
- Invasive species (asian carp, mussels, lampreys)
- Other forecasting research for NOAA
We hope that you can support the cause, thanks so much for your time and consideration!
Let's live more and give more,
- Drew Fries, Erik Ejups and J.T. Bohland
