The Lightning Association's English Electric Lightning XR724

Hi, Over the last few years we have with your help, raised funds to erect a shelter for English Electric Lightning, XR724.

This in itself has been a long hard slog but made a lot easier by our amazing supporters over our various social media platforms and a previous fundraising page.

Our focus now, going forward, is to continue the restoration of the aircraft to as close to operational status as possible.

Unfortunately, it will never fly again, but to just hear it start up the mighty Rolls Royce Avons and able to operate the controls means a lot to us and proof of the work we are carrying out.

Looking into the future, we will need fuel and various lubricants, such as hydraulic oil (OM15), engine oil (OX38) and Nitrogen for the accumulator and tyre pressures.

The surface finish preparation and painting continues as and when the temperature and humidity inside the shelter is favourable. The paint team are doing a wonderful job. Aside from the aircraft we also have Ground Support Equipment also under restoration to enhance our capabilities.

We are a passionate and hard working team of enthusiasts, but we rely on our wonderful supporters to help us reach our goals
