The Lit Ladder - Literacy Project
By the time students reach fourth grade, they should be reading to learn... not learning to read. If our children are unable to read by this time it can be very challenging for them to continue their education. In the state of Illinois, 63% of fourth grade students read below grade-level. This, in turn, contributes to the 500,000+ students who drop out of high school each year. Additionally, 61% of American families do not have books in their homes for their children.
Luckily, there are many ways to increase literacy and success for our students. Research shows that access to books plays a major role in literacy improvement as well as improving attitudes towards learning and reading. This is where we, The Lit Ladder, come in.
Our goal is to give kids access to books & make books readily available in all communities across central Illinois. The Lit Ladder has a desire to help and big goals to make a lasting change. But before we can make a big difference, we need help. Please consider donating to our literacy project/charity & follow our journey giving kids, families, and communities across central IL access to books, which in turn, helps increase literacy rates and decrease drop-out rates.
