The Little Leg That Could
My name is Diamond and, among other things, I am a hell of a human rights activist in my community in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
On August 23rd I was knocked over and fell while assisting on the scene of the Jacob Blake shooting. I was taken to the hospital where I learned I had fractured my tibial plateau, an injury the ER nurse practitioner called “not uncomplicated.” I’ve spent my time since then doing what I can to help my community and my comrades from home, and I’ve since learned exactly how “not uncomplicated” this injury is.
I am setting my pride aside to ask for help from the community that I know and love and truly live for. I will be out of work for the next eight weeks, at least. I am not eligible for short term disability through my place of employment.
The money I am asking for is two months of my income that I will not be bringing in myself through this situation. This money will go to my still coming bills and necessities such as medications and food.
$100 will go to Kenosha Pride Inc. to replace the megaphones that they borrowed out to be used at the scene to assist the crowd and were in turn lost in the chaos that overwhelmed our city.
I cannot express with words how overwhelming and depressing it has been to be taken from the frontlines of my community during these times when I should be out there and coming together and being put on my butt and told to sit down for a while. But I am forever thankful and grateful to those who have helped me both physically and mentally in this journey. Our community’s love never ceases to amaze me.
And I cannot believe I even have to post this, but as there are nefarious claims being spread about me, here is the proof of my injury and the date I got acquired it.
