The Little Mermaid Challenge DMV

Representation matters and two high school seniors Sydnie Chandler Monet, CEO/Host of The Perfect Timing Podcast and Lexi P., CEO of Curlanistas have teamed together with a common goal to ensure the next generation has the opportunity to see themselves on the BIG Screen. Their goal is to take 500+ young black girls from the DMV to see the upcoming Disney film The Little Mermaid, starring its first Black mermaid princess Ariel, played by Halle Bailey. Both teens are passionate about giving back and know how important it is to give young black girls positive opportunities, experiences and exposure. Representation Matters:

The release of Disney’s "The Little Mermaid" is another great opportunity for the youth to witness a Black major cinematic character come to life. This representation is fundamental for youth, especially those often underserved, underprivileged, and marginalized.

The Little Mermaid is much more than entertainment. It’s an opportunity for a child to embrace their individuality and power.

Ticket cost:

$14.99 per adult

$9.50-$11.99 per child under 12-years-old

With the highly anticipated upcoming drop of "The Little Mermaid" we want to be able to rent out a couple of theaters for local kids across the DMV, to be able to see the film when it releases. We can't just do a screening, we have to make sure we are giving kids all of the merch we can find. Lexi and Sydnie are huge on representation and for little black kids to see themselves on the big screen. They both have brands centered around self-love and following your dreams. This is why the #Thelittemermaidchallenge means so much to them.

How Funds will be Used:

All proceeds will go towards private screening tickets for children and chaperones, refreshments, and The Little Mermaid merchandise. On May 26th, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” will be released nationwide. The film stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, alongside a cast of many other amazing actresses/actors.

Through donations from supporters like you, we’ll be distributing tickets to families, schools and community organizations throughout the DMV. Imagine the joy of a whole classroom of kids finding out they get to watch this movie for free.
