The Locks’ Baby Lock - IUI for Lucy and Charlotte

Our story
Having been together for over 5 years now, Charlotte and I would love to bring a Baby Lock into our lives. The journey to having a baby is rarely easy or straightforward for anyone as many of you will know, and we are no exception.

We are so grateful to the NHS who have helped us to start the process by sending me for tests so that we can assess the functionality of my baby-making apparatus(!) but now we are on our own because they’ve taken us as far as they can for now; the funding that was previously available to same-sex couples at this point in their journey has been taken away. This means going to a private clinic to have more tests and to go through as many cycles of IUI (Intrauterine insemination) as we can afford. After 6 cycles the NHS are then able to step back in, but we are really hopeful that we will be successful before it comes to that. Each cycle costs about £1300 plus the cost of sperm which is about another £1000.

I have hoped to one day become a mother for as long as I can remember, and at 38 I am very aware that the window for me to conceive is fairly rapidly closing. With two completely fabulous nieces, Freya and Bells in our lives, they have always been like an advert for parenthood for me and after we met our new nephew Freddie at the beginning of 2020 we felt that we would love to take that next step as well. It’s safe to say that during a year of tumultuous uncertainty and the huge shock of losing Branston the beagle, Freddie’s arrival was the most wonderful ray of sunshine that has brightened up the year. Now that both of us feel like mothers, we are just missing our baby.

We would be so grateful for any amount that you might be able to put towards the cost of our treatment. Even a couple of pounds will make a difference and would be appreciated. We know that this year has been so difficult for so many people, and we hope that you are going to be able to look forward to a happier 2021 with less stress and more family time.
