**As of 8/23, we have reached our goal!! Please see the update below for more information and instructions for future donations. Thank you all so much for your support!**

On December 26th, 2022, we suddenly lost our beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin, and friend, Maggie Deiss.

Maggie is many things to many people, but above all, Maggie is defined by her incredible compassion and dedication to helping others.

After graduating from the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing, Maggie went on to serve children in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Chicago's Lurie Children's Hospital, and the Child & Adolescent Health Associates group, often working night shifts to provide care to kids when they needed it most. Throughout her academic and professional career, she received multiple distinctions and awards:
  • 2 Vanderbilt Daisy Awards (in 3 years), given to nurses for extraordinary compassionate care, as nominated by patients and staff
  • Lurie's Sunshine Award, given for cheerful service
  • Recipient of the coveted Janet “Joy” Thompson Award, established in 1978 and presented to one graduating senior, selected by faculty vote, who is an outstanding student, demonstrating compassion and “the personal attributes of tenderness and the natural ability to bring comfort to those in his/her care.”
  • 1 of 8 in her graduating class (of hundreds) to pass the NCLEX licensure exam on the first attempt

Somehow, Maggie still found the time and energy to stay close to her loved ones and was always the first to reach out, start a conversation, or instigate a group video call or trip.

Now, we are honoring Maggie's memory by continuing the chain of love, generosity, and service that she began. 100% of funds raised will be contributed to an individual memorial endowment fund with the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing, which will provide a perpetual scholarship award in Maggie's name to nursing students embodying Maggie's excellence of character and commitment to serving others.

Thank you for your consideration and any support you are able to provide. Mags, we miss you and love you always.
