The Maher Family in their darkest hour

For his entire policing career, devoted husband and father-of-two Chris Maher has worked tirelessly for the WA community that he swore to serve and protect. Now he needs your help...

To his friends and colleagues, the name 'Grouchy', which evolved from his primary nickname 'Bear', is an oxymoron. Grouchy/Bear's tough-guy exterior is just that; it protects the gentle giant beneath who has a massive soft spot for his family and those he friends he holds closest.

Sadly, a series of health issues over the past few years have put an end to one of Grouchy/Bear's great true skills and passions: country policing. The big man's ill health has seen him having to return to Perth for ongoing medical treatment.

Grouchy/Bear is a man of few words, one with a steely stare that often precedes a mega-watt grin. As you can imagine, he's not one to complain. But in recent months he's been battling cancer and recently learned that one of his treatments did not work as anticipated - leaving him 3-6 months to live.

Our beloved Grouchy/Bear has given so much to so many people over the years, particularly in the communities of Narrogin, Exmouth and Tom Price, where he was stationed.

So it's fitting to give back to such an amazing character and his family in their hour of need.

It's why we've put together this GoFundMe on the Maher family's behalf - to help tick off some of Grouchy/Bear's bucket list items, while making sure that his wife Justine, and children Caitlin and Liam, have the financial support they need.
