The man who passed away running the Southend Half Marathon

Donation protected
Sadly, a man who was running in the Southend Half Marathon 2024 has died.

The man collapsed on Mess Road in the Garrison Estate, just minutes from the finish line.

We are raising funds on behalf of the man and his family, who can decide to use the funds for funeral costs, a memorial, donated to Havens Hospices and the Air Ambulance, or donated to a charity of their choice.

The Air Ambulance attended, along with other paramedics, who tried their best to save the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, unlike NHS emergency services, is a service provided by a charity. The free life-saving service is provided 24/7 by helicopters and by rapid response vehicles in the hours of darkness.

A spokesperson from Havens Hospices who organised the event said: “The male runner collapsed on the route and treatment was given immediately. Paramedics, ambulances and an air ambulance attended shortly afterwards to give further medical treatment. His next of kin have been informed. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with his family and friends at this incredibly sad time."
