The Manangan Family and Toby's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
We were blessed to have Toby as our first pet in the Manangan household in August 2016. Now, 5 years old, Toby has become a huge part of our family. We have spent the past years taking him on every vacation with us knowing that it wouldn't be a complete family vacation without him.
Recently, Toby has been showing signs of lethargy and has had episodes of vomiting and random urination in the house. Alarmed, we took him to the first animal hospital nearby that could take care of him. Unfortunately, he was misdiagnosed and had us treat him with medication that suppressed his appetite. We were so concerned for him as his weight drastically plummeted and took him to our regular vet who diagnosed Toby with diabetes. On top of sparking his diabetes, Toby has also been diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis; he stopped eating, is drinking a lot of water, and shows signs of lethargy. Toby's body is lacking the insulin he needs to control his blood sugar levels. The vet has suggested to have him hospitalized in a 24 hour veterinary hospital so that he can undergo insulin therapy and further testing for any other medical illnesses. If left untreated, diabetic ketoacidosis could be fatal.
As a family of 8 (6 people and 2 dogs), our financial situation does not allow us to provide Toby with the treatment he needs. We do not want to wait to save enough money needed to pay the bill upfront, as Toby needs treatment as soon as possible. We feel heartbroken to see him suffer the way he is now and can only pray that if the financial opportunity presented itself, Toby can go back to the happy and joyous dog we know and love.
To anyone that has had the pleasure of meeting Toby, hearing about Toby through stories we would tell, or seeing pictures of him online, we hope his story reached you as it struck us so suddenly. He may howl at other dogs in the neighborhood at late hours of the night when let out in the backyard. He may bark at every human, dog, and squirrel he sees on his walks. He may also never fail to mark his territory on every tree, sign post, and mailbox on walks. That's what makes him our Toby.
