The Marcia Hudzik Memorial Scholarship for A.C. Reynolds
Donation protected
Marcia Hudzik dedicated over a decade of her career to AC Reynolds High School, where she significantly influenced the lives of numerous students and colleagues. Teaching Civics, World History, and Advanced Placement World History, Marcia's approach combined rigor with compassion, motivating students to deeply engage in historical inquiry and recognize the importance of history in understanding current issues. Her portrait, lovingly painted by a former student in 2014, still proudly hangs in the ACRHS media center.
After leaving AC Reynolds in 2016, Marcia went on to inspire students at Southern Lee High School in Sanford, North Carolina until a cancer diagnosis limited her ability to work full-time. Despite her illness, Marcia tirelessly researched her cancer and treatment options, worked in her garden, visited with friends, and orchestrated the daily activities of her family. Ever committed to education, she continued tutoring a high school student until the very end. Sadly, after bravely battling cancer for over five years, Marcia passed away on May 27, 2024.
Proudly declaring that she would always be a Reynolds Rocket, Marcia remained dedicated to AC Reynolds High School despite moving from Asheville and sought to establish a scholarship for a deserving ACRHS history student. The Marcia Edwards Hudzik Memorial Scholarship aims to honor her legacy by supporting an AC Reynolds senior who demonstrates academic excellence, a passion for history, and plans to major in the social sciences. Awarded annually, this scholarship reflects Marcia's dedication to history and serves as a testament to her unwavering belief in the transformative power of education. It is a tribute to her lifelong commitment to nurturing the next generation of historians, ensuring her legacy endures through the academic achievements of these students.
In remembering Marcia, we honor not just an exceptional teacher but a remarkable human being whose spirit and dedication left an indelible mark on those who knew her. Marcia's commitment to education and her enduring impact on the AC Reynolds community will continue to inspire and support students for years to come, allowing MMarcia's Passion for history and education to live on.
For those who wish to honor Marcia's memory, the Hudzik family asks that donations be made to the Marcia Edwards Hudzik Memorial Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers. All proceeds will be forwarded to the Buncombe County Schools Foundation and benefit the Marcia Edwards Hudzik Memorial Scholarship.
