The Mark Booras Family

Hi, my name is Steve Brinson, my wife Elizabeth and I are working with the Holdens, Scurlocks and many tennis supporters to raise funds for the Mark Booras family.

Mark Booras, head tennis coach at Tulane University in New Orleans, and his family need our help.

Just a few months after Mark and his wife, Laura, welcomed into the world their first child, Georgiana

Rose, Mark’s excellent health began to fail. After several months, he was diagnosed with extreme

heart failure and was sent to the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, where he was placed in the

Intensive Care Unit on April 17. After extensive testing, physicians determined Mark’s only chance for

survival was a heart transplant and his condition necessitated that he be placed on emergency status

for a transplant. Miraculously, Mark received a donor heart on May 30.

Mark’s physicians attribute his success so far to his unmatched optimism, his determination to relearn

the guitar while in the ICU and his having spent many years “running the bleachers” with his players.

Despite his wonderful progress, Mark is certainly not out of the woods by any means. He will be in

the ICU for at least 2 more weeks, and then for an additional 2-3 months will need to be within 5

minutes of Cleveland Clinic, so Mark and Laura will need to rent a house. They will always need to

have another adult with them, in case Mark suddenly needs to return to the hospital. While Mark has

excellent insurance, the additional expenses of medical deductibles, housing in Cleveland,

maintaining their home in New Orleans, travel expenses and expenses of helpers will be

monumental.

Mark and Laura have reluctantly agreed that they need financial assistance and have humbly and
