The Marlins (Almost) 24 Hour Relay 2021
The NSWC Marlins Swim Club is a team made up of 5 to 16 year olds who swim their hearts out every summer. In pre-pandemic times, there were swim meets almost every weekend. All ages of kids trained during the week and came together as a team to compete on the weekends. Our Marlins tents travelled to pools all over the Lower Mainland giving the kids a chance to connect, get to know one another and cheer each other on, regardless of age. Marlins is a special kind of sports team. The pandemic has affected our team spirit by keeping us apart from each other and other swim clubs.
Hosting a swim meet or two gave our team the chance to fundraise. We are known by all swim clubs for our amazing Cook Shack! Parent volunteers cooking up hot breakfasts and lunches for swimmers. For the past two seasons, we have not been able to host a swim meet which is a major portion of our fundraising dollars. Our swim club is a not for profit sports team that is run on registration, fundraising and the steam of parent volunteers.
Our team is in need of some new swimming equipment for the kids...things like kick boards, fins, swim caps, repairs to some of our aging equipment, and of course...filling the freezer with frozen treats to reward those hard practices. We want our team to get back to connecting and being the social club we are known for. This takes volunteers and funds.
On Saturday 7 August, we Marlins will swim"The (Almost) 24-Hour Relay"! We will have two relay teams continuously swimming from 9am to 11pm that night. That is 14 hours of straight swimming!
Please encourage and make a pledge to a Marlins swimmer you know and love!
