The Mathenge Family

Donation protected
On the night of Tuesday, August 23, 2022, we learned that Rene Mathenge left his house on his new Vespa but did not make it far from his home when he was t-boned at an intersection by a driver going 14 mph over the speed limit without headlights on in the dark. As a result, Rene sustained major injuries including a broken leg requiring emergency surgery and a severe brain bleed that has left him in an induced coma. He has been transported to a hospital in the Denver area for treatment.

This has created countless challenges for the Mathenge family as they seek to care for their only son who is now receiving medical care in Denver while also caring for their three daughters who are trying to go about their daily lives as students in the Monument area. With a long road to recovery ahead, we are now asking the community for help in carrying their financial burden so that they can focus on what is most important right now - caring for their family.

(Cyrus Mathenge is a Veteran of the 10th SFG Airborne and currently serves as a Colorado State Police Officer. Our nonprofit, Ignitus, has created this gofundme in support of him, his family, and especially Rene. As an organization that seeks to assist Vets and first responders, we invite you to please join us in carrying our friend’s burden as they navigate the challenges that now lie ahead.)
