The Matlock Raft Event 2024 Fundraiser for RNLI
What began as a group of enthusiastic divers seeking winter excitement in 1961 has transformed into a heartwarming annual event. That first year saw divers from Yorkshire and Derbyshire create over 100 rafts, braving the icy Derwent River. Today, over 60 years later, The Matlock Raft Event is a cherished tradition.
- When? A crisp, festive Boxing Day morning in Matlock, Derbyshire.
- Time? Starting at 11:00 am.
- The Route? From Matlock, through the river's twists and Matlock Bath weir, ending at Cromford Meadows.
The event is a festive spectacle of rafts from across the country, but its heart lies in its cause. We're committed to raising funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), honoring the heroes who keep our waters safe. Thanks to the Derbyshire Association of Sub Aqua Clubs (DASAC), we've raised about £2,900 annually, totaling over £154,000! This has allowed us to fund two lifeboats and support the Hyperbaric chamber, crucial for divers.
The RNLI is a registered charity that saves lives at sea. It provides, on call, a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service to 100 miles out from the coast of the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland and a beach lifeguard service on over 200 beaches in England. The RNLI continues to rely on voluntary contributions and legacies for its income.
After our last event in 2022, we extended our support to local pre-schools and food banks, donating £400. With your continued help, we can keep enriching our community.
A massive thank you to all participants, spectators, and sponsors. Your support bolsters our community and highlights the invaluable service of our coastguards.
With thanks and holiday cheer,
