Hey Friends!
For those who don’t know - my mother, Diane Cobley, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. It was quite the shock to all of us and as our only remaining parent, it was a tough pill for Jake and I, to swallow. But we refuse to think that this illness might take her from us.
Luckily, the cancer was identified in its early stages, and an aggressive treatment was prescribed, which included chemotherapy and surgery to make sure that the cancerous cells were removed. Mom has gone through the surgery and is currently headed into her final round of chemotherapy. She has been a fighter since day one, and as a single parent, she has taken this whole thing in stride while still trying to be as active in our lives and the life of my son, Thomas, as possible. (And I can tell you with the most sincere honesty, she has been amazing).
While she has been battling this cancer, her family, friends, employer, co-workers, and neighbors have stood alongside her and helped in every way we can - but unfortunately after invasive surgery and treatment that has kept her away from work for months, the incredible benefits she has earned over her dedicated career are running out.
Now she faces a choice that many cancer patients must face: follow through with her physician’s advice and continue with treatment to ensure that the cancer is completely removed from her body - a choice that would include more recovery time and loss of income or forgo additional prescribed treatment (against medical advice) and be able to go back to work in order to pay her bills.
It has been incredibly painful to watch for us. And while the decision is still up in the air, we want to help.
My mom raised Jake and I as a single parent after my father passed and taught us to work hard for everything we earn. She has never been the type of person to ask for help, electing instead to work harder than everyone else to earn it. But this situation is calling for a different approach.
I know she does not want to ask for help herself, so we are asking everyone if they will help my amazing mother this holiday season. I would be so incredibly grateful if you could chip in $5 or whatever you can afford to help my mom during her time of need. Our entire family is doing all we can to pitch in for this effort, but we are still coming up short.
Everyone who has ever met my mom knows the incredible woman she is. From raising two boys on her own while working two jobs, she still managed to never miss an extracurricular activity. She remained active in our church, was still able to give back to our community and was always the most selfless woman in the room. I think we can all agree she deserves our help.
I hope that especially during this holiday season, you will consider contributing whatever you can afford to help my mom so that she may continue treatment for breast cancer and live to fight another day.
Thank you so much for your consideration.
