The Mulder Family

Update 7-13-24

On June 26th Joel had a medical emergency and was admitted to Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. He was stabilized and it was determined he needed to be flown immediately to University of Minnesota and admitted ICU where a heart pump was implanted. He has been here since and is now awaiting a heart transplant.

Kristin is here in Minneapolis with him and staying a few blocks away at a hotel that is self pay as she is on a long list for a sub-lease for a hospital apartment. She is having to pay for parking and meals, etc. all while they are still paying for their bills and expenses back home. Joel is unable to work and Kristin is working as she can.

Many have asked how they can help and prayers are needed as this journey is long and uncertain. Also, if you would like to contribute to their GoFundMe it is so appreciated. We will be making periodic updates with Joel's journey on here as well.

Hi, our names are Carrie and Kim, and we are friends of the Mulder family.

As many of you know, the Mulders have had one medical journey after another, starting with Joel’s genetic heart condition diagnosis 23 years ago that has now progressed him to the heart transplant team in Minneapolis. Then in March 2008 when their middle son Isaiah was diagnosed with Very Severe Aplastic Anemia (VSAA) and subsequently underwent a bone marrow transplant. The three boys have also been diagnosed with the same genetic heart condition that their dad has and are therefore monitored with countless medical appointments and tests annually as well. To further complicate matters, Kristin was diagnosed this year with breast cancer and subsequently underwent a double mastectomy and is currently taking hormone blockers.

Joel and Kristin work so hard to balance the medical journey they each face, as well as that of their beautiful boys, while working full-time jobs and often several part-time jobs. However, after Kristin’s breast cancer and now Joel’s recent hospitalization, the time has come for them to rest and the many friends and family who have asked endlessly how they can help, to help. With much pause and prayerful consideration, they are accepting this GoFundMe and the great blessing it will be to them and their family.

Please pray for Joel and renewed strength and healing from his recent hospitalization and he and his family’s future medical needs. Please also pray for Kristin and the boys as they care for him and each other while near and afar. Thank you for these prayers and should you donate to the GoFundMe, thank you for that as well, as it is a gift that will be used towards homemaking needs, medical bills, travel to and from medical appointments, for their boy’s needs, and so much more.
