Muriel Delabar-Ryan Memorial Garden & Scholarship

Muriel Delabar-Ryan served as a beloved special education teacher at The Wheatley School for three remarkable decades, in which she significantly impacted the lives of all students, teachers, administrators, and community members within The East Williston School District. Tragically, Muriel Delabar-Ryan passed away in November 2018 shortly after being diagnosed with a rare and untreatable illness.
At the end of the 2018-2019 school year, Muriel's colleagues in The Wheatley School's Special Education Department joined together to design a memorial garden in The Wheatley School's courtyard to remember their friend and colleague, while also using the garden as a forum in which they can teach future generations of Wheatley graduates about Muriel's legacy of altruism, benevolence, empathy, and compassion.
Graciously, Michael Zaino of Zaino's Nursery & Garden Center helped Muriel's colleagues finalize their design plans and has generously agreed to donate most of the supplies, as well as labor, needed to complete the garden project. However, Muriel's colleagues need help purchasing two items essential to the design plan, a memorial bench and stone (example photos provided below). The estimated cost of the memorial bench and stone is $1,500.00. The memorial bench will be purchased from Venezia's Garden Center, while the memorial stone will be purchased from Earth Surface Engraving. Once the fundraising goal has been reached, Joe Crotty, a former colleague of Muriel Delabar-Ryan, will deliver the necessary funds to the respective businesses and finalize design plans and the shipment of the items to The Wheatley School, in partnership with Michael Zaino of Zaino's Nursery & Garden Center.
