My friend Dani and his family face a unique and difficult life situation. If you know Dani, you understand how hard he works, how faithful and dedicated he is, and how much he would never want to be a burden to anyone.
Dani Narvaez was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease in 2018, a debilitating disease without a cure that is typically seen in patients 60-80 years of age. Dani is currently forty-six. He and his wife Tricia have six children, four of which are still living at home. He is currently laid off and unable to work at this time. He is awaiting upcoming two-part brain surgery, which is not yet scheduled. This next and final step is being taken because no further remedies exist. His OHSU Neurological and other medical teams are hopeful the brain surgery will help.
Parkinson’s has pounded his mind and body since his diagnosis. A typical day for Dani involves dramatic tremors, rigidity and spasticity throughout his body, consistent pain, low energy, and the inability to sleep. It has been wearing him down to the point of lethargy and exhaustion over the last several months. Watching this process has been heartbreaking.
Dani feels helpless as he faces the stress of knowing he cannot overcome this disease. As any man would feel, he hates being a burden and feels great stress for his family. He wants to be a provider, however, it is simply not possible currently. It is a terribly humbling situation for a man that I love and respect. Dani gives so much of himself and shows such great commitment to his family, our business, team, and so many others. He is a remarkable human being.
The Narvaez family is facing increasing financial stress. Tricia’s load has increased as she is carrying the majority share of the responsibilities for the household. She is not able to work as much as she was before since the demands have become so great. Dani’s unemployment falls far short of his regular pay and what is needed to keep their household on track. Their current financial situation is becoming critical.
Dani and Trish are trying to maintain as much stability in the home as possible. The family has been a part of Willamette Valley Christian School over the last eight years. Keeping the kids in their school with familiar staff and loving support system is a priority that Trish and Dani have been willing to sacrifice for. Soon, the cost will be out of reach going forward. Further, any sports, music, braces needed, or other extracurricular activities, which will provide great distraction for the kids during this difficult period, will just not be possible.
Further, they face the transportation costs back and forth to OHSU. Following the surgery there will be an unpredicted recovery period. This will add extended cost issues with childcare, transport, and the related costs of recovery. Trying to keep normal routines and the costs associated is becoming a source of great worry for both Dani and Tricia. A major source of help for this family would be to contribute financially if you are able. Additionally, gift cards for food, gas, or anything that might bless the kids would be marvelous. You are welcome to message Tricia directly if you would like to give in any tangible way.
This family is so faithful. They are in a place of great difficulty by no fault of their own. I hope you will consider being a part of this effort to help provide for them and reward their faith.
As we post more information about the GO FUND ME account for this family, I hope you will consider prayerfully whether you might like to participate. If you cannot do so financially, please make their family a matter of daily prayer. Thank you in advance for any kindness you are able to display and share.
