The North Star Collective at the Center for Grassroots Organizing:
Youth-led Food Sovereignty, Regenerative Agriculture, and Herbal Medicine

This project is based in our understanding that regenerative agriculture is the best thing we can do in Vermont to mitigate and prepare for climate change. It is also rooted in the idea that land access for the frontlines of the crisis, including young people and people of color, is central to racial justice and a just economy, AND is a major part of how our communities might get enough land regenerating to save our communities and our economy from the crisis. Help us help our community!

We are raising money first to pay for our new 94-foot Hightunnel Greenhouse! This will be a major step up for our project, and our ability to produce healthy food and medicine for grassroots leaders across the State of Vermont and beyond!

We're also raising money to be able to pay 2 of our youth leaders, purchase perennial medicinal plants to transplant in the fall, some modest processing equipment and tools, and to support transportation costs for the 13 (and growing) farmers in our collective, as well as the transport of the produce we're growing. to migrant farmworker families and other community members in need of fresh food and medicine. Please help us out!

We are transitioning an old commercial dairy farm to a regenerative agriculture and food sovereignty educational experiment at the Center for Grassroots Organizing (grassrootscenter.net). We have created and maintain two large and beautiful gardens full of organic vegetables, flowers, and medicines.
We are founded in the principles of food sovereignty — the notion that food and land should be controlled by the communities that maintain them. We oppose all forms of domination that have resulted from European expansion onto the American continent, and encourage volunteers to come grow food with that in mind!  Collective members work on the farm for hours of their choosing each week, based on ability, and take home some of the fruits and vegetables they help to harvest. The majority of the harvest is given to communities in need throughout Vermont, particularly migrant farmworkers and  food-insecure community members.

We need to renew our food system, our economy, and our relationships with the land. Please help us in this work.

With love and dedication,
The North Star Collective
