We first met in the kid's ministry at our church almost 10 years ago. During that time, our heart for children and families have only increased as we've realized how great the need is for people from rough places. After having two daughters of our own, we have found that there is still so much room in our hearts and our lives to give to others who need it.
Throughout our marriage, God has given us an ever-increasing desire to be foster parents. A couple of years ago, we began building toward that goal. Recently we moved into a bigger house that would give us the room to take in foster kids. As we have delved deeper into the certification process, we have found a whole other side to fostering that has stoked our passions further.
Fostering is not just about taking a child into your home. 100% of kids in foster care come from hard places. In addition to that, the parents of these kids are also in need. Becoming foster parents would not only allow us to help hurting kids but also hurting mothers and fathers. The ultimate goal of fostering is not to increase our own family, but to be a co-parent and caregiver to children, allowing their birth parents the opportunity to receive care and get help themselves; and in the end, seeing these children reunited with healthier parents.
In order to be certified so that we can meet these needs, we will need a bigger vehicle, another car seat, furniture for the bedroom, and several home modifications to meet the state requirements for safety. Our certification process should be wrapping up in the next three months.
