The One Where We Adopted

Donation protected

Dear family and friends,

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes...plot twist!

WE’RE ADOPTING!

As most of you know, Amy and Andrew have known each other for almost 9 years. In June, despite Covid-19 and 2020 having other plans, we finally tied the knot!

Although our family has always included furbabies-Winnie (our best kitty ever who passed away last year), Neville (our lovable, full of energy pup), and Schuyler (our newest member of the Baker family)-our family blueprint has always included children.

Our hope was to have a biological child first and then through adoption or foster care, expand our family to the perfect size. However, as they say, plans change.

Amy has been type 1 diabetic for nearly her entire life. We knew there would be risks to pregnancy. However, after consulting Amy’s doctors and specialists it became clear that the risk to Amy and any child she would bear was too high. We grieved that loss together, but the space we held in our family and our hearts was still meant for a child. Love makes a family, and we look forward to making our family complete.

We can’t wait to add grandparents to Amy’s mom and dad‘s resume! Amy‘s sister is going to be the coolest aunt any child could ever hope for.

We are so excited to visit Andrew‘s sister’s family and have our kids experience the love of cousins.

We have witnessed the love that Andrew’s parents shower on their grandchildren and we cannot wait to give them another outlet. And of course, we look forward to our child feeling the love we constantly feel from our extended family and friends.

We look forward to adding another set of 10 tiny fingers and toes to our continuously growing chosen family, which already includes adopted and foster children and three babies on the way!! And lastly, we look forward to fulfilling one of Neville’s dreams of having a tiny human of his very own to snuggle and protect. We look forward to so many things as this adventure begins, but we need help.

The adoption process is intricate, intense, and very expensive. The total cost will be somewhere between $40,000 and $50,000. We had been saving towards a down payment of a home, but we have decided that starting our family is the most important thing right now. We will apply to every grant we can find to help finance our adoption. And, we have taken the step of asking you, our family and friends (and maybe friends of family and friends) to help if you can.

If you are unable to help monetarily, please share this with anyone and everyone! Know that simply taking the time to read our story means the world to us. We love you. We appreciate you. And, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the help.

We have chosen American Adoptions as our adoption agency. Please feel free to visit their website (www.americanadoptions.com) if you want to know more about the process. We would also be happy to discuss our journey with anyone that has any questions!

With all our love,
Andrew and Amy Baker
