The Ordination of Dr. Pippin Whitaker

Donation protected
On April 28, 2019, at 5:00 PM, the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax will ordain me as Reverend in the Unitarian Universalist ministry. I am overjoyed and honored by this sacred trust and responsibility that the congregation has chosen to place in me! Although there are many requirements to become a Unitarian Universalist minister, it is the congregation that ultimately ordains a Unitarian Universalist minister.

First and foremost, pleas join the celebration!

The ordination will take place at 5 PM at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax located at 2709 Hunter Mill Road in Oakton, VA. Childcare will be provided for the ceremony and a joyful reception will follow. RSVP here: http://evite.me/METMkRY56m

Please consider supporting this special privilege of UUCF.

In Unitarian Universalism, it is the congregation that names a new minister. This is a powerful and creative contribution to the faith. To exercise this privilege, the congregation must bring in guest ministers to officiate the ceremony, which includes travel and lodging. The ceremony also needs musicians, decoration, and technical support to run assistive hearing devices. UUCF also wishes to offer childcare for very young people who may not want to sit through a ceremony. And of course, UUCF wishes to offer refreshment for all gathered!

To provide this meaningful act of ordination, UUCF invites donations from all who are able. Your generous donation will be used for the ordination music, decorations, childcare, travel and lodging, and hospitality.

You can donate online at the "Donate Now" link, or write a check to UUCF with "Ordination" in the memo line. If you are considering donating, please donate before April 20, 2019.

What does ordination mean to me?

For me, ordination is the culmination of a life-long call to ministry and a five-year process of careful preparation to become a Unitarian Universalist minister. Prior to ordination, the Unitarian Universalist Association strongly encourages congregations to honor the ministerial credentialing process. To be credentialed through the Association, I must successfully complete: a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from an accredited theological school, an immersion study in Clinical Pastoral Education as a hospital chaplain, a thorough psychological assessment, and a rigorous evaluation and panel interview with the Ministerial Fellowship Committee in Boston, MA. With the sole exception of awaiting my MDiv degree in May, I have completed all aspects of the credentialing process! Having successfully completed these requirements (virtually completed the MDiv), I am overjoyed that UUCF has voted to ordain me. After five years of preparation and a life-long aspiration to ministry, my dear internship congregation will get to officially call me Reverend in the Unitarian Universalist ministry—how wonderful! I hope to see you there!
