“The Pantry – Where God guides, he provides!”
The short version: This GoFundMe is to aide Heather Ochoa in turning her passion project into a non-profit in hopes of helping even more families. There are costs associated with starting a non-profit organization that can add up fast.
The long version: As a child, despite growing up poor with a constantly working single father, Heather always wanted to help those around her who didn’t have much but other than asking her family to provide uneaten food and used clothes to other children she knew, she didn’t have much in a way to assist others in need. Heather knows what is like to feel hunger and to work hard for everything, starting her first job at age 14 to help out. In 2004 Heather went to a retreat and came back a changed person, deciding to assist where she could through Saint Vincent De Paul. Over the years, she has delivered food to the elderly, assisted those with redistributing pantries of their loved ones when they passed away to help others, to working with Community Services to provide families in need of assistance with paying their utility bills. For over 17 years, in addition to raising four kids, two with special needs, and working in the Dental field and Oakley Elementary School as a special needs substitute teacher, she has helped out the community wherever she could.
When COVID-19 shelter-in-place started, Heather realized how it was adversely affecting the families around her. Many found their work hours cut or lost their jobs entirely, making providing for their families basic needs difficult. Reaching out to her connections, Heather started placing food on her porch for families in need to come and take. Over the months, Heather formed and re-established partnerships with several restaurants, groceries, farms, and individuals who provide a steady supply of foods that are available to anyone in need via her front porch and provided Thanksgiving meals to over 98 families
The Summer Lake community has embraced Heather and her giving nature, assisting where they can. At Christmas, Heather organized a giving tree, helping provide over 78 children with donated gifts.
Even when the pandemic has passed, Heather has zero intentions of slowing down. Any funds donated that are above those needed for the creation and registration of the non-profit will be put back into donations. Heather works without financial compensation 7 days a week 10 am-7/8 pm to help those around her. If you’re able to assist financially, please do so via this GoFundMe or donate directly to Heather. With the creation of a non-profit, your donations will be tax deductible. If you have non-expired food that could be donated in small or bulk portions, please reach out to Heather through her Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/3227073893994747 . If you are a lawyer with experience in creating a non-profit or have other skills such as grant writing and are willing to assist, please reach out directly to Heather through the Pantry’s page. We acknowledge that not everyone is able to assist but hope that you will share this campaign to get the word out to either those who are able to help or those who are in need of assistance and to pray for the Lord’s continued guidance and support. May the Lord guide and bless you.
