The Portland Stage at Strawberry Fair
Donation protected
Hi my name is Mike Wilson and I have volunteered on the Strawberry Fair Committee for over twenty years.
From humble beginnings in the 1970s, Strawberry Fair has grown to be the most popular free, entirely volunteer run, one day music & arts event in Cambridge (and probably across Europe!), attracting over 30,000 visitors throughout the day. On 1 June 2024 on Midsummer Common, Cambridge we celebrated fifty (50) golden years of Strawberry Fair!
We are a not-for-profit and non-political, independent and self-funding. Strawberry Fair is run by the community for the community .
We always struggle to raise funds to put this event on for free for our community, but every year it's even more difficult with increased costs and less funds available with a greater demand for them.
The Portland Stage https://www.facebook.com/Portlandstageandbar was the largest indoor area on-site at Strawberry Fair www.strawberry-fair.org.uk. and for ten years featured eclectic quality performances showcasing hundreds of our best local entertainers, singer/songwriters, duos and bands in the area.
In the Fair's 50th year, we celebrated our 10th year of the Portland Stage!. It costs a lot to put the stage on. Thank you to anyone that donated on the day or via this page - we are very grateful.
For 50 years Strawberry Fair has marked the beginning of summer in Cambridge. It is with great regret that the Strawberry Fair organising committee announced that Strawberry Fair will not go ahead in 2025.
This is due to rapidly increasing costs in recent years, which have not been matched by increased income, leaving the Fair running an unsustainable deficit.
The committee intends to spend 2025 reassessing the Fair’s business model and fundraising, so that the event can return in 2026. An online fundraiser has already been launched at strawberry-fair.org.uk/SaveTheFair - Please help if you can.
