The Ripple Effect Bursary

Braiding Rivers is a women-led whitewater canoe guiding company for those who identify as female. Our intention is to deepen kinship with the land while building capacity for outdoor travel, promoting play and pleasure, and rediscovering embodied awareness. We travel along the Madawaska and Dumoine Rivers, beautiful Ontario whitewater gems, and practice an eco-centric guiding style. While we are in love with the land and our privilege to provide these kinds of trips, we also recognize that outdoor travel is prohibitively expensive for so many women.

 

Our intention from the beginning was to make these trips much more financially accessible, so we created the Braiding Rivers' Ripple Effect Bursary. This Go Fund Me is for anyone who feels called to subsidize the cost of a trip for women who would normally not have financial access to this kind of an experience.

 

Our goal of $11,650 would support 3 women, 1 per trip (we run 3 a summer), and takes into account the cost to use Go Fund Me's platform. Anything above and beyond our goal will be used to subsidize more women to come next year.

 

In addition to this platform, we have also included a sliding scale on our website which allows participants who have a little bit more to contribute to The Ripple Effect Bursary. Participants can choose to pay between our base cost ($2950) and our top cost ($3550). Any dollar spent over our base cost will go directly into a pool of money used exclusively for reducing the trip costs to promote more access.
