The Road to Croker - Buttevant Juvenile GAA & Camogie Clubs
Donation protected
Micheal McCarthaighs (Buttevant Juvenile) GAA & Buttevant Camogie Clubs are joining forces to raise much needed funds for the ongoing running of both clubs and to enhance our shared facilities, we will also be raising funds and awareness for the Dillon Quirke Foundation (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome).
We are embarking on a challenge to virtually walk, run or cycle the pathway that the Cork Football, Hurling & Camogie Squads have travelled since the League and Champion Campaigns kicked off in early 2024. Our target is 3000km.
We are hoping that the whole community will get involved. The beauty of this being a virtual challenge is that it is a group effort, families and individuals can get involved and clock up their Km's from wherever they are over summer, and they can either log them into a group challenge on the Strava App or screenshots can be sent to a co-ordinator to log on their behalf.
We are setting ourselves a target of €5,000 (less than €2 for each km we clock up), and sponsorship/donations can be made via this go fund me page or locally through our club member. We have decided to make a donation to the Dillon Quirke Foundation at the end of the fundraiser and we have applied to the Foundation to get all eligible members from both our clubs screened.
Dillon Quirke Foundation:
On 5 August 2022, Dillon Quirke collapsed while playing a Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship match for his club Clonoulty–Rossmore against Kilruane MacDonaghs at Semple Stadium. The Foundation, a registered charity was subsequently established by Dillon’s family. Its aim is to raise awareness of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) and fund widespread cardiac screening for young people (aged 12-18) involved in sport.
On average, Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) takes 100 young lives in Ireland every year. Cardiac screening can help prevent SADS by identifying heart conditions at an early stage – before they cause symptoms.
The Dillon Quirke Foundation is funding a comprehensive, doctor-led, cardiac screening service, with Advanced Medical Services (AMS) providing the screening.
AMS is Ireland’s leading mobile cardiac screening company. The company performs cardiac screening in schools and sports clubs nationwide, ultimately aimed at reducing the incidence of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS). Approximately two young people (under 35) die each week in Ireland from SADS. [SM2] Research has shown that cardiac screening can significantly reduce the incidence of SADS by up to 89%.
Thank you for supporting both clubs and for contributing towards this vital screening of our young members.
