Here is how the competition unfolded ……

State Finals, Oct 2024.
Queensland, Australia.

After building an impressive robot, our 2 teams from QRCA (Queensland Robotics & Coding Academy), under the mentorship of STEM teacher and QRCA Founder Daniel Ricardo, had a solid tournament. Finishing the qualifying rounds in first place out of 25 teams, they entered the knock-out phase going from strength to strength to win the Queensland State title. This provided entry into the National competition in Sydney!

National Finals, Dec 2024.
Sydney, Australia

Held at the Rose Hill Racecourse over 2 days in Sydney, the best 40 teams from around the country qualified to compete on the national stage. The competition was fierce, especially from the caliber of entries from the most prestigious private schools in Australia.

During day 1 of qualifying, our 2 QRCA teams really struggled. They were near the bottom of the ladder and a bit deflated. After a good team meeting and some adjustments to the robot, day 2 started off at a much better tempo, giving the teams confidence.

They just scraped into the knock-out phase. The pressure was expertly handled, with the team knocking out some of the best robots of the tournament, with epic finals run they secured a place in the grand final!!

They narrowly missed the win, landing at 2nd place overall in Australia!

This is where things get interesting….2nd place did not automatically qualify them for Worlds, but it did put them in good standing should an extra place be open for the Aussies to play on the global stage in the USA.

A few days ago, that door opened and the teams have qualified to compete in Dallas in May!!!

What are we asking…..
Needless to say, representing Australia is an amazing opportunity!

QRCA will be sending 2 teams (7 students overall) to Dallas in May for a 3 day tournament. They will represent Australia against over 40 countries, some 800 teams to test their skill, teamwork and engineering expertise on the world stage. It’s going to be intense and incredible!
