The Road to Recovery for Nicole Wigren Reilly

Donation protected
Friday the 13th is considered to be an unlucky day by many individuals. For Nicole, it was typical day for her spending it with her kids by doing the typical stay at home mom duties. Nicole went with her son, his girlfriend and a family friend to the mall that night. As they were returning, the unthinkable happened. We do not have the exact details of the accident but we do know that the car hit the guard rail a few times which lead to the car being totaled. Nicole and two others were rushed to the trauma center at UMass in Worcester, MA around 8pm on November 13, 2020.

Nicole was unresponsive when EMTs, fire and police arrived too the crash on the Mass Pike. Nicole was rushed into emergency brain surgery since the medical team was able to locate internal bleeding in her brain. They removed a part of her skull to help with her brain swelling. Nicole is currently in the Neuro ICU. She is localizing when the doctors and nurses are doing their tests. An example of localizing is when they touch her feet and she curls her toes. Nicole is currently not responding to verbal commands. Nicole has had a change to her medical sedition as of 11/16. Nicole is breathing on her own with the assistance of the ventilator. As of now, due to the swelling of Nicole’s body we do not know the severity of her injuries. We do know she currently has floating face which means she has facial fractures. Nicole currently has a severe Traumatic Brain Injury. Nicole is facing a long battle with her recovery. Even with the possibility of her waking up, Nicole would be still in the ICU for at least a month. Nicole would have long recovery for rehabilitation for not only her brain but her body too.

Nicole is the oldest of four siblings who she will help at any time they need her. Nicole is a mother of seven children. Nicole adopted her eldest’s son best friend and has considered him her son from the very beginning. Nicole has always been the first to volunteer to help her kids at school and functions. Nicole treats all her friends like they are family. Nicole is also an amazing aunt who loves her nieces and nephews like they are her own.

In regards to the other passengers, Nicole’s son was able to make it out of the car with just a pelvis fracture. While girlfriend was not as lucky she also has a pelvis fracture, an orbital fracture, missing front teeth and stitches. The family friend only had a concussion and bruising.

Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, finances have already been a challenge as Nicole is a stay at home mom. Money donated would be used for house bills, and accruing medical debt for her treatments and recovery. Please anything would help the Reilly family in this hardship they are currently dealing with.
