It is nearly time for No Shave November to support of the Rory Staunton Foundation. For those who don’t already know, Ciaran and Orlaith Staunton created the foundation to raise awareness for Sepsis prevention, a condition developed from an infection  that sadly took their son Rory’s life. Not only have they been successful in raising awareness, they have been on the forefront pushing regulations for education in schools and new hospital protocols to improve early identification/ treatment of Sepsis. Regulations proposed by the foundation (Rory’s Regualtions) were backed by Governor Cuomo in 2013. A recent release from Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) noted that New York’s mandatory sepsis protocols increased survival rates for children with sepsis by 40%. Their 2020 Campaign goal is to have mandatory sepsis protocols in every state by 2020. Every dollar donated will help them achieve this goal. Our goal this year is to raise $20,000.

Thanks to the everyone's support in 2016/2017, the foundation was able to produce this educational video on what you need to know to save a life. We encourage you to please watch and share. In addition to this video, proceeds helped fund the creation of a children's book "Ouch! I Got a Cut!" , a read-along picture book for young children that teaches a back to basics approach to wound care through the story of a fun day out with three best friends. It is available for purchase on Amazon. In 2017 alone, it sold out twice on Amazon!

In 2017, the New York State Departments of Health and Education came to the decision that every student in grades K-12 should receive comprehensive sepsis education programming. The State looked to the Rory Staunton Foundation to develop a sepsis curriculum that would progressively educate students about the importance of a ‘back to basics’ approach to preventing infection, understanding the risks and signs of sepsis, and taking responsibility for educating others in the community about infection and sepsis by devising public health awareness campaigns. The Rory Staunton Foundation collaborated with the American Federation of Teachers, a union of 1.7 million professionals to produce the lessons plans which you can read and share on foundation website here:
