The Rose Theatre Needs You

The Rose needs you.

Digital Projectors have about a 15-year lifespan. Ours were purchased 13.5 years ago. They almost made it.

After a slow summer season, during the opening weekend of what promised to be the biggest film of the year, a make-or-break weekend for us after many months of struggle, our oldest digital projector went dark in the Rose Theatre.

We've met our first goal and installed new servers on two of our projectors, but we've still got a long way to go. Servers are just one small component of our projection system and since our digital projectors are no longer being made our entire fleet of projectors will need to be replaced in full. New projectors will cost over $150,000.

Cinemas everywhere have been battered by streaming, COVID shutdowns, and the actors/writers strike. Historic arthouse and independent theatres have taken the worst of it, and many, across the nation, have closed their doors forever.

We can’t imagine Port Townsend without the Rose Theatre, and we don’t want to. Our family purchased the Rose in 2023, investing our life savings into the beating heart of our community. We’ve dedicated our lives to running a business that brings people of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds together, generously shares love and laughter, embraces inclusive and diverse viewpoints, and empowers us through play and storytelling.

The Rose Theatre spent decades in the dark, hidden away as a junk shop before being restored in 1992. We’ll do everything to keep that from happening again, and we know we’re not alone.

By making a donation on GoFundMe, you can be assured that your gift goes directly toward the purchase of servers and projectors, and any additional funds will be used to ensure the Rose Theatre will be endowed to serve our community for generations to come.

The most important thing you can do is come to the movies! We play family-friendly movies, blockbusters, rare historic gems and cinema classics, impactful arthouse and independent films you are unlikely to see anywhere else.
