The Rush Family with Father's Cancer Treatment

My best friend Kimberly's husband, Sonny Rush, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4A Squamous Cell Carcinoma. At 41 years old, the diagnosis was very shocking to the family. The kids are terrified that they are going to lose their Daddy.

Sonny is scheduled for a PET scan this week to determine if cancer has spread into his lungs and brain. The doctors are hopeful it has not spread past his tongue and lymph nodes. He will begin chemo and radiation treatments by the end of the month, pending insurance approval.

Sonny and Kimberly have 3 beautiful children aged 5 - 19, two of which are Autistic and require additional care. Therefore, Sonny is the sole provider for the family of 5. Due to upcoming treatments, he will be unable to work for at minimum the next few months.

They are fortunate to have decent insurance and the option to receive partial pay for a specified amount of time. However, between the cost of doctor's appointments, treatments, and Sonny's missing income, this cancer diagnosis has already begun to take its toll financially and emotionally on their family. Sonny's wife is now responsible for caring for Sonny during his battle with cancer, and all that entails, the children, and running the household throughout his treatment.

I am trying to help the family raise the cost of out-of-pocket insurance premiums of $7500.00. Additionally, I would like to raise additional funds to help cushion the family from Sonny's lost income and other out-of-pocket costs not covered by insurance. All funds, minus GoFundMe's fees, will go directly to his wife to pay for medical care. If additional funds are generated, they will be used to pay bills that are short due to Sonny's missing income.
