The above page was formerly known as "The Kagando Care Swim Challenge". That was nine years ago, and we raised nearly $1500! Now under a different name but the same goal - to raise funds for health care projects my amazing sis, Rita Miller, runs in the Rwenzori region of Uganda. This region is one of the poorest. Often battered by droughts or floods, never making the news. Sadly, funding for her projects has dried up.
So, fast-forward to 2022. I just made two crucial decisions:

1. I will raise much-needed funds for my amazing sister, Rita Miller, women's health projects (Rwenzori Women for Health) in Kagando, western Uganda, at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains.
2. I will do so by qualifying for swimming number of starts at the 2023 19th FINA World Masters Swimming Championships, which will be held across the three beautiful cities of Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Kagoshima, August 2-11, 2023, on the island of Kyushu, Japan.
This is how the sponsorship works:

I'll be training and swimming competitively to make qualifying times for at least five events - one of which is the 400m Individual Medley (100m of each stroke - butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle), also known as the Black Widow! So people can:
1. Sponsor the number of qualifiers I manage to achieve, or
2. Sponsor my setting Personal Best (PB) times for these events, or
3. You can sponsor both!

Every little bit helps. I will also post updates on the Rwenzori Health Swim Challenge on FaceBook. All swimmers (and other sporters) of all levels are welcome to join me on this journey. Currently, two additional persons have joined the team: my daughter Myrthe, a cross-fit competitor and Emma Burns, a top Kiwi Masters swimmer. Please contact me if you are interested in raising funds for this great cause. The people of the Rwenzori will be forever thankful.

Of course, you can always donate any amount in the coming months! All donations will go directly to the various projects. No funds will go to my travel to, and accommodation in, Japan, nor fund any training or my website hosting - this will be self-funded.

Please visit my website and blog (https://www.journeytokyushu.com) and read more of the story.
