The Saber Six Foundation

Tax deductible
The Saber Six Foundation honors the six paratroopers from our unit killed in action and supports the 800 surviving Veterans and families.

Many of our unit's veterans are entering the most dangerous days of their lives due to the following:
  • Coping with post-traumatic stress;
  • Experiencing mid-life challenges;
  • Struggling for new purpose and belonging.

If not addressed, people can develop depression, leading to self-harm, substance abuse, and suicide.

22 Veterans die by suicide daily. Over 7,500 service members were killed in post-9/11 wars; over 30,000 veterans have died by suicide. That does not count the deaths by overdose.

Our 2007-8 unit, TF SABER & 1-91 CAV, has now lost more to suicide and overdoses than enemy fire.

Here's how we're reversing that awful trend.

The three keys to success are Purpose, Belonging, and Well-being. When they are in place, you believe your life is worth living. You see your best days through the windshield instead of the rearview mirror.

Through our solid bonds and innovative programs, we're helping help our beneficiaries move from Surviving to Striving to Thriving.

Understanding the Happiness Curve for Veterans

Many veterans see their time at war as their happiest. They have a keen sense of purpose and belonging, common dangers, and the belief that the people around them have their backs. At ages 18 – 25, they are also at the top of the happiness curve.

After military service members leave the unit or the service, they often lose that sense of purpose and belonging. They start to think that “nobody gets me, nobody’s got my back, nobody can help me.” Feeling alone in a crowded room is where the problems begin.

Some find new purpose and belonging — their happiness curve is relatively flat. However, many drift into mid-life crisis and start to struggle. Others go into free fall and are at high risk for the worst outcomes.

Flattening the curve for our 800 and their families

We want to assist our veterans and families who are struggling to get the support and guidance they need to bounce back stronger. We want to ensure those people in free fall get the care they need to lead healthy and happy lives.

Our heroes were willing to die to protect our freedom and way of life. Their lives are worth living. Help our heroes build dreams to live for.
