Sally's Story
One of the hardest things about rescue work is having to say goodbye after only a short time. Sometimes all the love, money, tests and treatments in the world can't fix things. Sally was dumped in the shelter when she started having seizures. We pulled her from the shelter before she was euthanized back in April. She went right to a specialty hospital to get a work up. When nothing was found she spent time with Dr. Cohn at home as we searched for the perfect foster or adopter.
Sally spent time with the at Fishtown Animal Hospital family while Dr. Cohn worked, she loved car trips as long as she had her bed, stopping for a pupaccino at starbucks, and enjoyed couch hangs with the Dr. Cohn’s pets. She finally found the most amazing family who was fostering to adopt her. They loved her. They took her to the beach, learned the things she loved and gave her the world. Sally had a seizure this week so we had her evaluated by the neurology team at UPENN. She had an MRI to finally get to the bottom of her issues. Unfortunately, in addition to a pituitary tumor, they found water on her brain (hydrocephalus) which was causing immense pressure on her brain. A situation for which there was no successful treatment options. Her amazing foster mom was with her when she crossed the rainbow bridge earlier today. Our hearts are with Maira and her family. We couldn't have imagined a more amazingly loving home for her. She was loved, real love that didn't give up on her. She will be forever missed.
More information about Fishtails A Fishtown Animal Rescue, Inc.: Pulling time-stamped animals from local shelters that would normally be deemed unadoptable due to extreme medical concerns. The Fishtails Fighting Chance Fund helps cover medical costs beyond routine veterinary care, to allow loving pet owners to avoid surrender and/or euthanasia.
