The #SayGay Fund

The Florida Senate just passed a "Don't Say Gay" bill that bans "classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity" in primary schools. It is now being sent to Gov. DeSantis' desk for signing.

 

The Bill:

 

The measure bans “classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity” in kindergarten through third grade. It also prohibits such teaching “in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students,” which critics say could be interpreted to extend to all grade levels. Parents can sue school districts for alleged violations.

 

Because of this bill and the hatred it normalizes, LGBTQ+ kids and their families are in danger. To combat this hate, we are raising money for three organizations in Florida that support LGBTQ+ youth and policy.

 

*All money will be split equally between the organizations.*

 

 

 

 

The Organizations:

 

Equality Florida: Equality Florida is the largest civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community.

 

Zebra Coalition: Zebra Coalition is a network of organizations, which provide services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and all youth (LGBTQ+) ages 13 – 24.

 

The Coalition assists young people facing homelessness, bullying, isolation from their families, and physical, sexual and drug abuse with individualized programs to guide them to recovery and stability.

 

The Center Orlando: The Center Orlando exists to promote and empower the LGBTQ+ community and its allies through information, education, advocacy and support.
