The Schooner Edward D. Boynton rebuild
Donation protected
We are trying to rebuild the Schooner Edward D. Boynton so as to be able to offer public and private charters along the coast of New England. We will also be offering sail training for those who wish to learn how to sail traditional gaff schooners.
The list of work to be done is as such:
Replace diesel motor
Overhaul all standing and running rigging
Build a cockpit well and coamings for passengers
Finish plumbing and electrical systems
Replace cabin sole
The vessel has just undergone a massive interior refit, the original interior was rotted and has been removed and a new interior fit in place. The old diesel has been pulled out. The hull and bottom were painted while at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum in the spring of 2020
We hope that you may help us as we make this vessel accessible and comfortable to handle up to 6 passengers at a time.
The Edward D. Boynton maintains a Fisheries Endorsement on its Federal Documentation making this the last Gloucester fishing schooner (as well as the smallest!)
Its in the spirit of Gloucester fisherman Capt. Ed Boynton that this vessel be available to the public and keep maritime tradition alive and accessible to everyone.
Thank you!
