The Sequoia Sanctuary
Donation protected
Hi,
My name is Richard Reames
I have been working with trees for 30 years. I have been granted permission to begin a new and exciting project at a public garden called Pacifica-a Garden in the Siskiyous, located in Williams Oregon.
With the help of volunteers, we planted a 100’ diameter circle of Sequoiadendron giganteum trees, also known as giant sequoias, on flat ground. The trees were planted on 3-foot centers and will grow to create a solid wall of living wood. The circle is a sort of a spiral with its beginning and ending overlapping forming a gap to allow a 12-foot wide secluded entryway.
Planting these trees at Pacifica will not only enhance the beauty of our community garden, but it will also showcase these endangered trees. This tree cathedral will function as a secluded shady gathering spot where events such as weddings, memorials, outdoor classes and musical events can be held.
I need your help to plant more of these sanctuaries and maintain the first one.
The cost of purchasing the trees, the irrigation pipe to the site, as well as providing long-term care and maintenance will be significant. I am seeking donations to cover these expenses and ensure the success of this project while seeking other locations to plant more of them.
Any amount that you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and will make a real difference. Your support will not only help us to plant these amazing trees, but it will also help us build an all-access trail into the circle from the existing trail. With your help, we will educate and inspire others about the importance of Sequoia trees and environmental conservation. I hope this will be an example of how creative land art projects such as this can enhance the usability of arboretums and botanic gardens around the world.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. I hope that you can visit this unique project to enhance our community and make a positive impact on our planet.
Pacifica A Garden in the Siskiyou's has been serving the community of southern Oregon since 1999. A unique 420-acre natural reserve, it is a nature center and botanic garden.
