Hi! My name is Hannah. I am a friend of the Shirley’s! I am helping fundraise for the Shirley’s medical expenses.
Two and a half years ago, Josh was diagnosed with a large tumor in his pelvis. He went through 4 months of chemo treatments, then surgery and was declared cancer free. Josh had a lot of ongoing recovery after surgery but had been making great strides. In the fall of 2022, he began to experience a sudden and dramatic decrease in energy. They had hoped it might be as simple as chemo-related anemia, but soon learned it was actually leukemia.
He started chemo in late December with the goal of working towards a bone marrow transplant. The past 5 months have been tough, but he has continued to fight even with setbacks. After getting a clear biopsy in early March, they learned last week that the cancer cells are present again. In order to knock out the cancer cells and give Josh the best chance of transplant success he is going to spend about a month in the hospital doing chemo treatments and monitoring for infection and neutropenia. Then, if that is successful, he’ll come home for a few weeks to recover and then go back for another month (give or take) for the bone marrow transplant.
Josh is self-employed and has worked through all of his treatments, though certainly not to his normal capacity. He hopes to keep working during this next round of treatments as much as he can, but we are anticipating there will be an additional drop off in income while he is in the hospital for two months as well as significant medical expenses.
So far, they have had about $15,000 in medical expenses this year and think that it will likely be at least $20,000 this year.
We are creating this go fund me to help off set the medical expenses that the Shirley's are currently facing. Pleae consider donating to help them with their journey.
