The Silly William Project to Checkmate Addiction

My name is Matt Bader. I'm a writer and developer of The Silly William Gambit.

One month ago, I lost my best friend from high school the same night the gambit I developed made its professional debut (it was played on stream by a professional chess player in a rated tournament, and resulted in a stunning Queen sacrifice checkmate victory.) I have decided to publish my repertoire on the gambit, but turn it into a story that aims to capture the incredible intertwining of these two moments.

I am publishing this story in his honor , and I am directing all funds raised from the project to go towards fighting the disease that took his life: addiction.
